The Hungarian Team’s Victory at the DiaEuro Football Championship

The DiaEuro international diabetes football championship is a special event that provides diabetic athletes the opportunity to showcase their talents and perseverance. The most recent tournament was held in the beautiful Dalmatian city of Zadar, where the Hungarian national team won a gold medal, crowning the team’s outstanding performance.

The Hungarian team consisted of talented players such as Péter Brondics, Gábor Czernai, Dániel Földvári, Imre Kása, Gábor Kurucz, János Nagy, Balázs Sándor, Boldizsár Tillinger, and Vince Tordai. During the preparation, Tamás Hevesi, a role model for diabetic athletes, led the team, ensuring that the players brought their best form to the competition.

The tournament took place at the end of August and featured 12 teams, including not only Hungary but also football powerhouses like Italy, Portugal, and the host country, Croatia. The Hungarian national team won its first match against Italy, and in the next match, despite suffering a defeat against Poland, they achieved a fantastic 6:1 victory over Serbia in the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals, the team played an outstanding match against Croatia, which went to a penalty shootout, and ultimately, the Hungarians emerged victorious. In the final, they faced the Portuguese team, where they triumphed in a closely contested battle. With this victory, they not only secured the gold medal but also saw Gábor Czernai being named the tournament’s best player, recognizing the Hungarian team’s performance.
