The Process of Individual Equity Requests

The Individual Equity Request (IER) provides an opportunity for cancer patients to access medications that are not available within the usual funding frameworks. Patients can utilize this option if the already supported medications do not meet their treatment needs or if previous therapies have not yielded the expected results.

The process of submitting an IER can be complex, as it requires fulfilling numerous documentation requirements. The request must include the patient’s data, the name of the requested medication, and the details of the chosen pharmacy. Additionally, the treating physician must also complete a professional request, detailing the patient’s condition and the rationale for the proposed treatment.

During the evaluation of requests submitted to NEAK, the validity of the data is first checked, and then experts assess the justification of the request based on professional and economic considerations. The evaluation process can take up to 60 days, although expedited procedures are possible in urgent cases. If the request is favorably evaluated, the medication will be made available to the patient free of charge.
