    The Sindbis virus is an RNA virus that belongs to the Alphavirus genus of the Togaviridae family. This virus was first isolated from mosquitoes in the Nile Delta of Egypt. The first human cases were reported in the early 1960s in Africa, and subsequently, infections were documented in Australia as well. The disease known as Sindbis fever is caused by the Sindbis virus. The virus is primarily transmitted by Culex mosquitoes, but migratory birds can also act as vectors. The occurrence of the Sindbis virus spans a wide geographical area, including Africa, Asia, and Europe.
