The topic of adolescent breast abnormalities

The increasing concern about the possibility of breast cancer among young women is frightening many. Despite these fears, many find themselves in a situation where they cannot participate in screening tests because they are not accepted at screening facilities due to their young age. This issue is particularly important, as young women can also face breast diseases, making self-examination a key role in maintaining their health.

Self-examination can be beneficial not only for young women but for all women who want to monitor the condition of their breasts. By applying the right timing and technique, abnormalities can often be detected in time, which can be crucial for early diagnosis and treatment. With the right information, young women can manage their situations with greater confidence.

To prevent breast cancer, it is essential for the young female population to be aware of their own body’s characteristics and potential deviations. Introducing self-examination and regular monitoring can contribute to women feeling better in their skin and more easily noticing changes.

The Importance and Methods of Self-Examination

Performing self-examination is extremely important as it helps women get to know their bodies and detect possible changes. It is advisable to time self-examination for days 8–10 of the menstrual cycle, as breast tissue is least sensitive at this time. In the days following menstruation, women have the opportunity to thoroughly examine their breasts and better understand their normal state.

During self-examination, it is important for women to palpate their breasts in different positions, such as standing, sitting, and lying down. Each month, they should pay attention to changes, as regular monitoring helps detect deviations in the breasts. Monthly self-examination allows women to become more familiar with their bodies, and if they notice any abnormalities, they should immediately consult a doctor.

Any palpable change that is new compared to the previous examination deserves attention. For example, if a lump is felt, it is important not to hesitate to see a doctor for appropriate examinations.

What Happens If an Abnormality Is Detected?

If an abnormality is noticed during self-examination, the first step is to visit a specialist. The doctor may refer for appropriate examinations, such as breast ultrasound, which can be performed at various institutions, such as hospital radiology departments or private ultrasound diagnostic laboratories.

During the ultrasound examination, the specialist may encounter different results. In some cases, the detected abnormality may represent completely normal glandular tissue, in which case the only further action is to increase self-monitoring of the breasts. If the lump becomes more defined, further examination is necessary.

Among breast tumors, the most common is the fibroadenoma, which is a benign lump made of connective tissue. To confirm the ultrasound diagnosis, cytological or histological sampling is also recommended. In the case of fibroadenoma, regular monitoring is necessary, and if growth is observed, removal of the lump is justified.

The Most Common Breast Diseases and Their Treatment

Breast diseases that appear in young women include cysts, which are sacs formed from the epithelial cells of the milk ducts. In the case of cysts, if they do not cause complaints and their type is typical, periodic ultrasound monitoring is generally sufficient. If the cyst has an atypical appearance or causes discomfort, the fluid can be drained with a thin needle, and cytological examination may also be conducted.

If the ultrasound examination raises suspicion of malignancy, it is important for patients not to hesitate but to immediately request a histological examination. Waiting or hoping for the situation to improve only worsens the chances of recovery. Modern medicine offers numerous combined therapeutic options, so early diagnosis and prompt intervention are crucial.

In summary, there are opportunities for breast examination available to young women that should be regularly utilized. Awareness and a proactive attitude can help detect problems in time and take effective steps to maintain our health. Instead of fear, action is what matters most!
